“QNC Space” - a review

The “QNC Space” project - the Deep Tech Accelerator for research groups, start-ups and SMEs - funded by the former Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has come to a successful end. The last round of applications was completed on October 31, 2024.

As part of the project, numerous innovative projects in the field of quantum and neuromorphic computing have already been supported and significantly advanced. The QNC Space offered a unique platform for networking research groups, start-ups and SMEs with the infrastructure of the Research Fab Microelectronics Germany (FMD) and the FMD-QNC partners.

Technological support and scientific progress

Each of the funded projects was or is dedicated to a specific technological issue. Thanks to comprehensive technology consulting, the use of state-of-the-art machinery and equipment as well as customized process development, the feasibility studies of the first round have already been successfully completed.

Wide range of topics

The spectrum of funded topics ranged from superconducting and ion trap-based quantum computing to cryogenics and assembly and connection technologies. Among other things, materials were tested, structures manufactured and demonstrators built.

Strong partnerships and networking

The involvement of industry partners and collaboration within the FMD-QNC consortium made it possible to create synergies and expand networks. The high innovative strength of the submitted project ideas and their potential added value for research and development in Germany was particularly impressive.

The conclusion of the 2nd round of QNC Space marks the end of a chapter that has made a decisive contribution to the further development of quantum and neuromorphic computing. We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and forward-looking ideas!
